Creative Arts

higginsa1_200_105Trinity Catholic College has a long and proud tradition of the Creative Arts. Talented and dedicated staff offer courses in Dance, Drama, Music, Visual Arts and Photography. Facilities include the 220 seat Champagnat Theatre, the 125 seat Chanel Drama Studio, a spacious Dance studio, Music class rooms, practice rooms, Music Computer/Keyboard lab, 3 fully equipped Visual Art rooms, dark room, kilns and digital photography and multimedia facilities.

A highlight at the start of each year is the annual College Major Production. Staff and students plan and prepare for 12 months, with intensive rehearsals taking place through term 4 in the year before. In recent years, productions such as Pippin, Song for a Dark Queen, Hiawatha, Under MilkWood, Godspell, Macbeth, S.E.Hinton’s The Outsiders and Romeo and Juliet have played to thousands of audience members and received wide acclaim.

Late Term 2 and Term 3 each year see a hive of activity in the department as the College presents a series of showcases of works in progress for the HSC Examinations. Onstage features HSC Drama Individual Group Performances. Junior dancers join with the Year 12 class to present HSC Dance Performances and Compositions in Inspirations. The HSC Music class entertains audiences over a number of shows in Performa. Finally, the Annual Student Art Exhibition showcases not only the HSC Bodies of Work for the current year but also the depth of artistic talent in Years 7 to 11.

Performances for junior students in Dance, Drama and Music are staged each year. Also, a number of Music ensembles allow musicians from beginners through to the most advanced to participate in Music making in and around the College and local communities. These include the College Concert Band, World Music Band and Choir.

As each year draws to a close, the Creative Arts Department celebrates the consistently high achievement of our students in the HSC examinations with many Band 6/E4 results across Dance, Drama, Music 1, Music 2, Music Extension and Visual Arts. Our students are also regularly nominated and selected for the state wide exhibitions and showcases Callback, Onstage, Encore and ArtExpress.

We continue to look for opportunities that will allow our students to express their creative energy and hone their artistic and performance skills.
